Intern Introduction: Marissa Jayawickrema

Hi there!

My name is Marissa, and for the next six months, I will be working with the Heritage team at the Wayne National Forest as an Archeologist Intern.

I attended the University of Hartford where I majored in History and minored in Environmental Studies and Economics. For my professional career, I intend on working in cultural resource management or stewardship of public lands.

Me, working hard, obviously.

I moved from Connecticut to this region in southeastern Ohio so I could participate in conducting surveys while maintaining cultural resources and records. I am so excited to learn these new skills while seeing another part of the country that I’ve never been to before.

I am passionate about this position because I want to ensure that all people feel welcome in national forests by embracing underrepresented historical narratives with equity and respect. I can’t wait to learn more things during my internship!
