Who is the new intern at trinity river national wildlife refuge

Matthew Thomas Dutton

Hello All! My name is Matthew Thomas Dutton, I am an intern at Trinity River Wildlife Refuge. My path to this point wasn't one without a few bumps in the middle. It took time, tears, blood (literally), and family to get me here. I am 23 years old from San Antonio, Tx. I went to Baylor University for two years before I found my home at Texas State University, where I met awesome like-minded people who were driven and felt that we needed to inspire change amongst all generations if we want to preserve this planet.
For the last 7 months I have been living in upstate New York. I was part of a conservation corps, partnering with the Student Conservation Association and Americorps to provide New York State Parks and Department of Environmental Conservation land with much needed conservation and restoration efforts in a variety of different ways.
If you were to ask me 4 years ago where I would be today, I would have said something along the lines of, "I'll be in med school" or "I'm in Africa with the peace corps". Never would I have thought I'd be the type of person who was just willing to get down and dirty for what I thought was right. I never was one to play in the mud or dirt unless it was for a sport. Now I'll walk through knee deep bogs if you ask me to.
I can't wait to see where this experience takes me. Every adventure, every laugh, every new bump and bruise, will be for the benefit of my career and my journey through this vast beautiful world. Every once and a while we should just take a second to look at it.
