Kids in Parks Program Was a Catch!

On July 9th, 2022, I hosted the first Kids in Parks Program of the summer! I created a craft activity to make casting plugs with buttons for the participants to practice using the rod and reel before going out to the pond. Multiple families came out to learn how to fish and we were successful in catching some Black Bullheads in our pond at the park. I was excited to see that families were interested in coming back to the park to fish.

I am hoping to have an event for our Junior Ranger Angler Program next week! I am excited to see if we can get more people to the park to fish and learn about the Homestead Act of 1862 and its impacts.

I enjoyed getting to know the families that came out to my program!

Participants learned how to tie a hook on a line, how to put a bobber on properly, not to use live bait in national parks, and to catch and release!
