Invasive grass removal

This week has been spent outdoors learning about seed collection to help regrow natural plants because they are threatened by invasive grasses. Today, we exhausted ourselves as we plucked several grasses from Saguaro National Park. We focused on grasses that were along a wash as they suck up water which the desert can not afford to lose. Although they pose another danger as their density may aid in the spread of fire which will destroy our environment. Along the mountain you see below, all of the yellow plants are invasive grasses. Clearly we couldn’t clear out all of it, but our contribution will decrease the spread of this species and that’s a great step towards the complete removal of the invasive grass from the park.
