Introduction (Kiana Camacho)

Håfa Adai, Tirow, and Hello!

My name is Kiana Camacho and I am a proud daughter of the Northern Mariana Islands. The NMI is along the Mariana Trench (the deepest part of Earth!). I am currently studying Natural Resource Management and plan to continue my education in the field of wildlife biology in the future. The ocean and land that make up my home is something that I value very deeply. I want nothing more than to protect and conserve the lands that have nurtured me, and many other generations of indigenous people like me, for more years to come.

A little bit about me — I love being in the water; whether it be free diving, scuba diving, fishing, or just swimming at the beach, being surrounded by the beautiful blue waters is something I really enjoy. Some other things I enjoy include hiking, gardening, and art. My favorite things to garden are anything that produces fruit or vegetables, I find it extremely fulfilling!

This summer, I will be a Fish and Feathers intern at the American Memorial Park on the island of Saipan. I am most excited to really engage with the local community, meet new people, and learn new skills. It is nice to meet you all!
