Climate Change Resource Assistance Field Trip

Last week, I had the opportunity to connect with my fellow RAs in Minnesota for the Office of Sustainability’s (OSC) Climate Change Field Trip. The trip was hosted by OSC and supported by the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science (NIACS) and involved site visits in both Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. I was really inspired by the work that we were able to view and participate in and the learning environment of being with my cohort of Climate RAs. It was a great chance to connect in-person with old friends from our cohort and a chance to meet the new RAs from the summer cohort. Overall, it was a chance to learn and spend time in beautiful places! What more could you ask for?

My favorite parts of the trip were the visits we took to two different experimental forests. The science that is occurring on the landscapes within these places is groundbreaking and super exciting! The first photo is from the Cloquet Forestry center where they are experimenting with timber harvesting, regenerative tree planting and forest resiliency practices. The second photo is from the Marcell Experimental Forest on their peatland experiment where they are experimenting with peatland resilience and carbon storage.
