Winter Recreation in the Ashley

Recreation remains extremely popular in the Ashely National Forest throughout the winter. The Forest offers a variety of places for visitors to stay, scenic drives, trails to ride, snowshoe, and ski, and a variety of other winter recreation. In the winter, yurts and guardhouses must be monitored and upkeep for visitor use. This requires a long trek into the forest to reach these facilities. Visitors can ski or snowshoe to these locations. Ski trails must be maintained in the winter to allow visitors to be able to easily follow trails. While parts of the forest are not accessible by road in the winter due to feet of snow, many roads are still accessible and turned into snow-mobile trails during the winter months. These snowmobile trails, along with ski and snowshoe trails cover much of the forest and allow visitors to access large portions of the forest even in the winter.
