Updates and Archeology

Hello! There are quite a few updates to my internship. I received an extension to my internship in order to lessen the gap between the transition to a permanent position, which means I will have a permanent full-time position as the GIS Specialist for the DART East at the Croatan National Forest! It’s an exciting time, and I feel extreme privilege and gratitude to be given this opportunity.

For the past month, I’ve been involved with the archeologist of the district and on my team. I’ve had several outings with each of them. For a few days, I was able to come out and help the zoned archeologist with some site surveys, On the first day, we looked at several sites and dug in transects to search for artifacts. These areas were in low probability, so our team did not find any artifacts unfortunately, but it was a great look into what a day in the archeologist’s life would be! The next day we were on the search for cemeteries. We were able to find two of the three we were searching for, so we thought it was a good day! Each day had the perfect weather for an outing, and I couldn’t have had a better experience.

This is my last blog, so I wish you and future interns the best of luck!
