I’m thrilled to be here and excited to introduce myself to this wonderful community. My name is Macy DeGraw and I am from SLC, Utah but I am currently based in Washington, D.C. for this internship opportunity.

Living in D.C. I find inspiration in the simplest of moments and the grandest of adventures. My passions are as diverse as the colors of the sunset, ranging from reading and writing to finding solace by the ocean.

This internship is based on their mission, in their own words. “Our Mission: To connect diverse people to natural resources by working to teach natural and cultural resource stewardship ethics and values through all of our programs.”(Birdability)

One aspect close to my heart is promoting inclusivity and accessibility, particularly for the Deaf and Disabled communities. Being Deaf myself, I’m keen on finding ways to amplify voices and ensure equal opportunities for all. Additionally, I’ve developed a fascination for the avian wonders of Washington D.C. and am eager to learn more about the diverse bird species that inhabit this city.

After meeting the wonderful people that I will work with, we have learned how to identify birds into groups, based off their colors, the shape of their tail and beaks. We have just started our journey and I am so excited to learn so much more.

This blog is my canvas, a space where I weave together threads of thought, experience, and imagination. Through my words, I aim to inspire and teach for all individuals, inviting you to join me on a journey of discovery and accessibility.
