Hello everyone!

My name is Olivia and I am a Monarch butterfly field technician intern with Environment for the Americas. I am studying Meteorology and Natural Sciences at the community college back in my hometown with my upcoming graduation in May! I have always had a passion for the outdoors and preserving the lands around us, so this internship is very important to me. I have spent the last couple of weeks completing online trainings and gaining field work experience to soon be out in the field at Dyess Air Force Base in Texas.

I have been very fortunate to be trained by the most patient, meticulous, and supportive people. They not only taught me all that I need to know, but took the time to make sure I understood each and every step. I had so much fun getting to know them over the few days we spent together! This is my first position completing field work, so I was very nervous to begin. I wanted to make sure I was familiar with my role and the impact I would create on both the Monarch’s and the military community at Dyess.

As I begin my first adventure through fieldwork, I am open minded and excited to collect data about the Monarch butterflies and their habitats. I hope to leave a positive impact and spread my knowledge to others over the course of the next month!
