Pilot Event Preparation

Hello everyone!

These past two weeks have been super exciting!

Most of my time this week has been spent planning and communicating with folks from various different groups to coordinate the World Migratory Bird Day pilot event.

I was able to connect one-on-one with Cat Fribley, Executive Director of Birdability, to discuss materials that I will be able to use for activities during events. I wanted to provide a “tactile experience” for individuals attending events who may be blind or have low vision, so they can gain a deeper understanding of the birds they are hearing.

I am hoping that the pilot event participants will provide me with plenty of feedback as to what works or doesn’t work for the birding event!

I received confirmation that six students from the Carrol Center for The Blind are able to attend my pilot event, so I am super excited to show that birding is an activity that can be accessible to all, even if you are unable to see!

I also got confirmation that some birding experts are able to attend the pilot event: Jerry Berrier and Rebecca G, a Massachusetts Birdability captain. Jerry is a birder who has been blind since birth and has spent time in his career working to create accessible bird outings along with all-person trails.

FI am looking forward to the pilot event next Friday!
