Hey y’all!

I’m Natalie Locklear and I’m currently a senior at North Carolina State University majoring in Environmental sciences with a minor in global public health and biology! I am pursuing this major because I want to do my part in protecting our environment so that all people are able to experience the amazing things it has to offer, not only for us, but for future generations to come. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved the outdoors, and I still love how peaceful I feel while I’m in nature today. I also grew up fishing, and it has been a very positive memory for me throughout the years, as it has helped bond me to many people I love the most. The Fish and Feathers Internship excited that little girl in me, and the woman I am now, that I would have the opportunity to not only fish, but to pursue my passion of joining together people and the environment. 

This summer I will be working at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina. I will be doing several things with the OuterBanks community, and tourists including kayaking programs, surf fishing programs, resource carts, and so much more! I will also be helping at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse which was built in 1870, and is the tallest lighthouse in North America with an enriched history. My goal this summer is to gain experience with talking to communities about the importance of our natural resources and how they can become a part in enjoying and protecting them. In my free time I’m excited to explore the beauty the Outer Banks have to offer and surf fish! Here is a picture of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse below!
