Introduction – Brianna Stevens

Hello!

My name is Brianna Stevens. I am a Natural Resources major at Oregon State University with a specialization in Conservation Law Enforcement. I am originally from South Carolina, but currently live in Tennessee with my dog, Andy. I enjoy exploring the outdoors, reading, concerts and crafting. Lately, I have enjoyed traveling to different national parks such as Yosemite National Park and Acadia National Park. I am excited to visit many more parks in the future!

This is my second summer with the Fish and Feathers internship program and I am excited to be back! This summer I will be located in Port Alsworth, Alaska at Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. I enjoyed getting to learn about the ins and outs of the National Park Service last summer and am excited to continue learning more about how the National Park Service works this summer. I am also excited to continue building up my fishing and birding skills in such a beautiful place.

What Will I Be Doing This Summer?

This summer I will be focusing on interpretation and education surrounding the conservation of fish and bird species. To make that possible, I will be helping create and execute Junior Ranger programs and day programs. I will also be working in the visitor center where I will be getting to learn customer service, communication, and public knowledge skills. Something that I am super excited about is getting to deploy to the backcountry by small plane to gain field experiences in salmon count and capture, fish ID, how to use sampling equipment and data collection. After my return from the backcountry, I will be preparing a presentation for the local Port Alsworth community on Lake Clark’s Fisheries.  It is exciting to be back in a position where I will be able to make meaningful connections with the local community and help them better understand their natural resources.

Here’s to an amazing summer!
