29 Aug EFTA Joins NABCI U.S. Bird Conservation Committee
In the fall of 2023, the North American Bird Conservation Initiative (NABCI) reached out to us with exciting news—their doors were open to new member organizations for the first time in two years. During these discussions, Environment for the Americas (EFTA) was recognized as a strong partner due to our shared goals and unwavering commitment to bird conservation.
Recognizing the value of this opportunity, we eagerly submitted our application, detailing our extensive bird conservation activities, broad partnerships across the Americas, and our effective communication and outreach efforts. After thorough review, NABCI’s Executive Council unanimously voted EFTA in as a new member in February 2024.
The Benefits of This Partnership
Advancing Bird Conservation
Joining the U.S. NABCI Committee aligns perfectly with our mission to protect and restore bird populations and habitats. Our collective efforts will amplify the impact of bird conservation initiatives across North America.
Strengthening Strategic Partnerships
EFTA’s work is built on successful collaborations with both governmental and non-governmental organizations. Our partners include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, American Bird Conservancy, and many more. Additionally, our partnership with the United Nations Convention on Migratory Species has expanded World Migratory Bird Day globally, strengthening our messaging and impact.
EFTA’s approach to bird conservation considers ecological, social, and economic factors. We actively engage diverse communities and partners in our programs, whether it’s research, education, outreach, monitoring, or restoration. Since 2009, we’ve launched internship programs to promote diversity within conservation, offering pathways to natural resource careers for over 200 underrepresented youth annually.
About the U.S. NABCI Committee
The U.S. NABCI Committee promotes bird conservation through partnerships that are regionally focused, biologically informed, and oriented towards landscape preservation. Its work addresses the full life-cycle needs of resident and migratory birds, combining natural and social sciences to promote strategic bird conservation on a continental scale.

The U.S. NABCI Committee plays a key role in guiding and managing its activities, including those of its subcommittees and staff. They work on strategies to promote U.S. NABCI’s mission and efforts in bird conservation, while also overseeing planning and evaluation processes. The Committee is all about maintaining ethical integrity and accountability, and they strive to raise NABCI’s profile among partner organizations and within the wider conservation community. Plus, they regularly review NABCI’s efforts and adjust strategies as needed, all while building strong relationships in the bird conservation world.
Stay tuned for more updates as we begin this exciting new chapter with NABCI. Together, we can make a significant impact on bird conservation across North America.
