03 Sep Learning the Ropes
Well, August is coming to a close and I have learned so much. It has been a great month of learning and growing in the conservation field. I love all of my team members and everyone has been so welcoming and helpful. I am excited to continue in this position for the next several months. This month has consisted of training, training, and more training. My brain is a bit fried, but I am learning and enjoying this position in the State, Private, and Tribal division of the Forest Service. I am constantly on calls throughout the week talking about different FLP (Forest Legacy Program) proposals and grants. I have been a part of meetings on so many topics. It is hard to keep track of everything!
I am learning that each funded FLP project can take up to 5 years to actually go through the whole process. It takes forever! I think the FLP program is allowing states to further conservation efforts, and all of these projects can never be undone. These projects are to be registered in perpetuity. I was given a title to work on for one of these funded projects coming out of Arizona. The project has been funded to establish a wildlife corridor for threatened, endangered, and other species to make and keep suitable habitats within this area. The area is supporting 6 (yes, 6) jaguars that have crossed the border and are now calling the area their new territories. SO EXCITING!! I am so happy to be a part of projects like this and to further conservation initiatives.
I have a couple of pictures to share, but they are boring due to me only working on trainings and titles at the moment. Apologies.
