29 Apr 2025 Fish and Feathers Intern Intro: Kiara Roman Gonzalez
Intro
My name is Kiara Roman Gonzalez; I am currently in school pursing a degree in environmental science. However, Before I made the decision to pursue this current degree, I served 6 years in the military as a security forces officer. During my time in the service, I completed an associate’s degree in criminal justice. After separating from the military, I decided to pursue a bachelor’s in environmental science at the University of West Florida.
In pursuing my environmental science degree I have gained a greater appreciation for the outdoors. I learned the importance of sustainability and all the components that make up the environment. I am estimated to receive my bachelors in December of 2025. My goal is to one day become a park ranger or help conduct research in the field. I understand the importance of parks and the preservation of them. Many people visit parks as an escape. A park can ease your mind and help you get closer to nature. I am interested in this program because I love the outdoors and enjoy speaking to people about the outdoors. I would love to broaden my knowledge of fishing and wildlife. I also hope to expand my knowledge and learn a bit more about the park service. I am currently volunteering at Gulf islands National Seashore as a guest services volunteer. My job is to answer any questions guests may have and provide them with a memorable experience. I love volunteering for the park service as it gives me joy to be able to be a part of the NPS team. I hope by becoming an intern I am able to learn and inspire others to appreciate nature. I am very passionate about making the outdoors more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
