21 Sep September Returns
Danielle and I are back on JBSA Camp Bullis and eager for the Fall field season! So much has changed since our last visits in Spring. The fields are drier, browner, and more barren. The meadows that once overflowed with sundrops, coneflowers, and daisies are now enshrouded in an overgrowth of grass and shrubs alike. New critters and life have found a home in these new habitats, different than those that were here before. Amidst it all, milkweed finds a way to persevere! Each stem waiting, beckoning the return of the Mighty Monarch. The blistering heat that soaked the land over the summer is nearing its end. Though the days are still bright and warm, the sun has begun to rise later accompanied by the brush of an early Autumn breeze. Monarchs have yet to arrive on these lands but their brothers and sisters of varying species are ever present. Swallowtails and Queens as well as Bumblebees and Wasps are busy as they stop by the blooms that dapple the harsh terrain.
