VIP Night Shift

This past week I had the opportunity to assist in the execution of Cabrillo’s volunteer recognition event. This is an event hosted once a year funded by our parks non-profit organization: Cabrillo National Monument Foundation — or CNMF.

It was incredible to watch how staff from all different kinds of departments came together to show up for the volunteers and to lend a hand. We have an amazing VIP — an acronym for Volunteers in Parks — who went above and beyond with putting together decorations for our retro themed event.

The volunteers here are truly special and it is an honor to be a part of the efforts that keep their programs running and ensuring they know how greatly their time is appreciated.

Volunteers in have the opportunity to assist in amazing projects, but they are often also doing small things that allow our Ranger’s to expand their efforts. Volunteers assist with education tables, interpretation, tidepool monitoring, weed pulling, seed harvesting and greenhouse duties.

Local Star

Our non-profits fundraiser event, Cabrillo Under the Stars, got a special feature in the local newspaper and my supervisor, Ranger Sandy, and I were featured in the article representing our parks volunteer programs.
Cabrillo's Whale Watch Overlook includes a life sized painting of a Pacific Grey Whale. During their migration season, Grey Whales pass through San Diego's water returning back home from their birthing and mating season done down in the warm waters of Mexico. Over the years, whale watching events have been hosting and enjoyed thoroughly as you can see by the whales wear and tear. Fortunately, CNMF got the funding to have it repainted !

🌟 Every blog I have so many ideas and what feels like so little time in preparation for upcoming events. I have been kept busy with event planning and making connections to represent Cabrillo, CNMF and EFTA at partner organizations’ events. Stay tuned for updates on my upcoming events at a VegFest, Walter Munk Day, San Diego’s Natural History Museum and San Diego Archeology Event.
