The Latino Heritage Internship Program (LHIP) seeks to engage young Latino/Latina professionals in natural and cultural resource research and management, interpretation, and public affairs.
The intern will help with messaging on projects that connect various audiences to the National Park Service, its mission, and amazing places, including planning and promoting the annual Latino Conservation Week and the work of the LHIP interns nationwide through products such as web pages, articles, social media posts, podcasts, or videos. The intern will gain practical experience with a communications rollout by leading the entire process and creating pieces of the plan depending on their interests. Projects may include:
webpages, articles, internal/external guidance, news releases, videos, photography, and social media posts. This work will help in their career development by providing hands-on experience and a well-rounded portfolio. The intern will also gain valuable leadership experience and provide insight and input to help expand the NPS audience. They will provide assistance in the facilitation, coordination, and distribution of information to national, regional, and park staff as well as various partners.
Natural and Physical Work Environment: If in person, this position is located in downtown Washington, DC, which is generally hot and humid during the summer. There are many grocery stores, restaurants, medical facilities, and public transportation in the area. This office is also set up to telework.

Education and Qualifications:
We are looking for someone with a solid background of communications related skills and abilities. Projects will be identified based on the strengths and interests of the individual balanced with the needs of the office. The applicant should have a blend of the following:
* ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
* some college-level writing/journalism/communications/visual media classes
* experience preparing, writing, and/or editing written material
* desire and/or ability to work as part of a team to brainstorm and develop outreach
Materials and achieve common goals
* ability to cooperate with and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers,
Partners, and the public.
Additional skills are a plus but not required:
* experience with web and/or social media content
* experience with photography, videography, graphic design, and/or multimedia creation.
Vehicle and Driver License Requirements: No personal transportation or driver’s license necessary
