The Resource Assistant Program seeks to engage ethnically and racially diverse young professionals in natural resource careers. 

Position Description:

Financial administration duties and special financial projects. Financial Project Assistant to the National Forest Service (NFS) Director, Deputy Area Budget Coordinator (DABC). Participate in the preparation of budget communication products and tools, interpreting budgetary guidance, preparing Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s), presentations, and maintenance of website. A strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality documents in a fast paced and budgetary environment, required.

Attend meetings with NFS DABC and other team members to stay abreast on current budget developments and capture notes. Work closely with the NFS DABC to assist in the creation of PowerPoint presentations, brochures, and other graphic materials. Collaborate with NFS DABC and Budget Team on the development of content for the NFS Budget website and creating financial communication strategies, and budget planning tools for NFS budget deliverables. Coordinate on the development of a NFS Budget Staff newsletter. Oversee several SOP’s development and the development of a NFS Budget Welcome aboard package; along with several budget procedure processes. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective communications deliverables.  Assist with other administrative projects as needed.

Responsible for small budgets that requires reasonable monitoring, tracking, reporting and review of budget submissions for accuracy, and conformance with budgetary procedures and guidelines. Monitoring budgets and providing program status of funds. Evaluating data submitted for consistency with historical data, current levels of operations, and anticipated changes in staffing and/or funding levels. Performs complex analysis of budget requests, current year activity, and historical data to assist in funding recommendations.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Financial Management, Concentrations in Budgets/Accounting/Finance a plus

Abilities and Skills

Highly skilled, experienced, knowledgeable, and proficient in MS Office Products: PowerPoint, Word, and Excel (i.e. formulas and pivot tables) and the ability to use software to map out procedure flow charts. A strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality documents in a fast paced and budgetary environment, required. Creativity for high-quality presentation a must. Performs a variety of budget administrative and analysis functions in assigned area. Small budget oversight as required.
