Project Description:

This internship will focus on the development of communications guidance for the National Park Service to work with emerging influencers, bloggers, and tik tok videographers that visit National Parks in the Midwest Region. This public information officer (PIO) fellow would be duty stationed at the Midwest Regional Office (MWRO) in Omaha, Nebraska. This fellow would also work closely with the fellow at Mount Rushmore National Memorial (MORU) in South Dakota. This intern would have the opportunity to travel to MORU to connect and support their colleague.  The fellow would also support parks in the Midwest region with ongoing communication needs such as review and development of news and press releases; review and development of social media content; and support for parks seeking to do proactive communication.  Finally, the fellow would be supporting the communication needs of the 100th anniversary for Hopewell Culture National Historical Park (HOCU). HOCU was also recently designated a UNESCO world heritage site and could need other communication support in the summer of 2023.

Intern Qualifications:

Interns selected for the NPSCF Program should possess:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience
  • Strategic thinking ability

  • The ability to self-start/work independently

Public Affairs, Communication, Technical Expertise Relating to Digital Platforms (social media, web site management), Marketing, Public Affairs, Technical Writing

Physical/Natural Environment:

Omaha is a small big city. There is a walmart that is a short uber and a grocery store that is walkable from Creighton housing. A previous intern found the bus system and biking viable options to get around downtown. I believe there is also parking at Creighton during the summer at no cost.

Work Environment:

It is a regional office. They would have their own desk, multiple monitors, a computer and break room. We hope the intern could travel during their 12 weeks to Mount Rushmore at which point they would stay in park housing.
