Project Description:

This position is part of a cohort of 20 climate change-focused internships that will receive specialized training and opportunities to engage with other members of the cohort.

​​This position will be developing and sharing US Virgin Islands-relevant communications for the USDA Caribbean Climate Hub. The position would be primarily virtual and work from the USVI, meeting at least weekly with the Puerto Rico based staff of the USDA Caribbean Climate Hub. Co-develop USDA Caribbean Climate Hub educational resources. 

  • The applicant will help develop and maintain climate related communications with USVI based USDA agency partners, University extension, local agencies and NGOs involved in agriculture and forestry, and local farmers and forest landowners. 
  • The selected applicant will become familiar with the activities, tools, and resources of the USDA Caribbean Climate Hub in order to engage USVI stakeholders in activities, the use of tools, and access to information on climate adaptation, mitigation, and resilience. 
  • The selected applicant will work with the Caribbean Hu team to identify resources, relevant literature, key experts and examples of climate adaptation and mitigation on USVI agriculture and forestry for Caribbean Climate Hub Adaptation Workbook and climate literacy modules. 
  • They will contribute USVI-relevant communications to CCH web pages and social media. They will represent USDA Caribbean Climate Hub at agricultural and forestry-related events in USVI via information tables. And they will create an inventory of key stakeholders, farming operations, associations, nonprofits in USVI related to agriculture and forestry.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-develop USDA Caribbean Climate Hub educational resources. 
  • Identify resources, relevant literature, key experts and examples of climate adaptation and mitigation on USVI agriculture and forestry for Caribbean Climate Hub Adaptation Workbook, climate literacy modules. 
  • Contribute USVI-relevant communications to CCH pages (events, news).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution .
  • Writing and communications skills. 
  • Familiarity with the US Virgin Islands agricultural sector. 
  • Awareness of the topics of climate change, agriculture and forestry.
