Wildlife Biologist Resource Assistant – ONSITE – Helena-Lewis and Clark NF

Start/End Dates: February 5, 2024 – September 30, 2024

Compensation: $650 per week + $1000 monthly for housing

Position Description: 

Wildlife Biologist duties, including assisting with field work (sampling, monitoring) and project NEPA analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Sampling and monitoring wildlife habitats. 
  • Assisting with project analyzes consistent with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  •  Assisting with habitat restoration.
  • Working with other resource specialists across a variety of projects. 
  • Assisting with data syntheses and data entry

Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and with a team 
  • Has enthusiasm for working outside, sometimes independently, in all weather conditions
  • Experience in the field driving 4x4s, hiking in mountainous terrain, wading in variable stream conditions and working independently at times
  • Organizational skills are critical. Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and preferably GIS.
  • Strong written and verbal skills and ability to deal with diverse groups representing a variety of viewpoints
  • Ability to independently gain knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, and policies. 
  • Positive attitude, commitment to the position, openness to challenges exploring new things, working with partners and as part of a team are desirable.
